How PDO threads tighten the stomach
PDO (polydioxanone) is a material used in surgical sutures for decades. We use two kinds of threads on the abdomen:
- Lifting threads give the skin an immediate lift and support.
- Mono threads are smooth threads placed in a mesh-like pattern to tighten the skin and improve its texture.

Your appointment, step by step
- Consultation. Your provider looks at your skin, how much laxity you have and your goals, then maps where the threads will go.
- Numbing. The area is numbed so you're comfortable.
- Thread placement. Threads are placed under the skin with fine needles. Most people feel pressure rather than pain.
- Going home. You can go home the same day. Mild soreness, swelling and bruising are common for a few days.
Results and how long they last
You'll notice some tightening right away. Results keep improving over the next few months as collagen builds, and they typically last about a year or more. Individual results vary.
Aftercare
- Don't touch or rub the treated area for 48 hours.
- Skip strenuous exercise for 1 to 2 weeks.
- For 2 weeks, avoid massage, saunas, hot baths, tanning beds and direct sun on the area.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for 1 week.
- Mild swelling, bruising and slight unevenness are normal for 2 to 5 days.
- Call us if you see a thread coming through the skin, or have severe pain or dimpling. A follow-up at 1 week is recommended.
