PRP hair restoration at Cosmetica Med Spa in Boca Raton treats thinning hair with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from your own blood. We concentrate the platelets, which carry natural growth factors, and inject them into the scalp where hair is thinning to support thicker, healthier hair. A visit takes about 60 minutes with no time off, most plans start with 3 to 4 sessions about a month apart, and sessions start at $699. Every plan is overseen by our medical director, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Andrei Gherghina.
What PRP hair restoration can help with
- Thinning hair on the top or crown of the head
- Pattern hair loss in men and women
- A widening part
- A receding hairline
- More shedding than usual
- Supporting results from other hair treatments
PRP works best for early to moderate thinning, while the hair follicles are still active. It won't regrow hair on areas that are completely bald.
How PRP works on the scalp
Platelets are the cells in your blood that help the body heal. They carry growth factors, proteins that signal cells to repair and grow. For PRP, a small sample of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate a concentrated layer of platelets. That plasma is injected into the scalp where hair is thinning, to stimulate the follicles there. Because it comes from your own blood, allergic reactions are very unlikely.
Is PRP right for you?
| PRP is often a good fit if you have… | PRP is less likely to help if you have… |
|---|---|
| Early to moderate thinning | Areas that are completely bald |
| Pattern hair loss in men or women | Hair loss that started suddenly or in patches, which needs a medical evaluation first |
| A widening part or receding hairline | Expectations of a full head of new hair |
| Time to commit to a series and maintenance | No plans for maintenance sessions |
At your consultation, your provider reviews your hair loss history and your scalp, and tells you honestly whether PRP is likely to help.
Your appointment, step by step
- Consultation. Your provider looks at where and how your hair is thinning and talks through your goals and history.
- Blood draw. A small sample of your blood is taken, much like a routine lab test.
- Preparing the PRP. The sample is spun to concentrate the platelets.
- Numbing. The scalp is numbed first for comfort.
- Injections. The PRP is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp.
- Going home. The whole visit takes about 60 minutes, and you can go back to your day right away.
Your treatment plan and timeline
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| First 3 to 4 months | A series of 3 to 4 sessions, about a month apart |
| Around 3 months | Most people notice less shedding first |
| 3 to 6 months | Hair starts to look thicker as growth builds |
| After the series | Maintenance sessions every 4 to 6 months to keep results |
Hair grows slowly, so PRP is a gradual treatment. Individual results vary.
PRP for men and women
Men usually come in for a receding hairline or thinning at the crown. Women more often notice a widening part or overall thinning on top. The treatment is the same for both. Men can also read about PRP for men.
Pairing PRP with other treatments
PRP is often used alongside other hair loss treatments, so tell your provider about anything you already use. For overall scalp health, ask about mesotherapy.
Aftercare
- Don't touch, press or rub your scalp for 8 hours.
- Wait 6 hours before washing your hair or putting products on your scalp.
- For 3 days, avoid vigorous exercise, sun, heat, alcohol, caffeine and smoking.
- Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin and other anti-inflammatories for about 1 week, since PRP works through your body's natural healing response. Tylenol is fine.
- Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day for the first week.
- Tenderness, redness, itching, swelling or bruising can last 3 to 10 days.

How much does PRP hair restoration cost in Boca Raton?
At Cosmetica Med Spa, PRP hair restoration starts at $699 per session. Most plans include 3 to 4 sessions plus maintenance, and your provider confirms the full plan price at your consultation.
How many PRP sessions will I need?
Most plans start with 3 to 4 sessions about a month apart, followed by maintenance every 4 to 6 months.
When will I see results?
Most people notice less shedding first, then thicker hair after 3 to 6 months. Hair grows slowly, so results build gradually.
Does PRP for hair loss work for women?
Yes. PRP is used for pattern hair loss in both men and women, including a widening part and overall thinning on top.
Can PRP regrow hair on a bald spot?
No. PRP works on follicles that are still active, so it's best for early to moderate thinning. It won't regrow hair on completely bald areas.
Does PRP hair restoration hurt?
The scalp is numbed first. Most people feel pressure and mild discomfort during the injections, and the scalp may be tender for a few days.
Is there downtime?
You can go back to your day right away. Tenderness, redness or swelling can last a few days, and you should skip vigorous exercise, heat and alcohol for 3 days.
Are PRP results permanent?
No. Hair loss usually continues over time, so maintenance sessions every 4 to 6 months help keep your results.
Is PRP safe?
PRP is made from your own blood, so allergic reactions are very unlikely. Mild scalp tenderness, redness and bruising are the most common side effects.
