Our laser, and your skin tone
We use the Cutera 1064nm Nd:YAG laser, a wavelength designed to reach the follicle while sparing the pigment in the surrounding skin. That's what makes it suitable for a wide range of skin tones, including deeper skin. Light blond, red, gray and white hairs don't carry enough pigment for any laser to target well, so we'll look at your hair before you start.
What happens at each session
- Shave the area the day before, and arrive with clean skin.
- Your provider sets the laser for your skin and hair, then treats the area in passes.
- Each pulse feels like a quick snap. Small areas take a few minutes.
- Afterward, the skin may look pink with small bumps for a few hours. A cool compress helps.
- Over the next 1 to 3 weeks, treated hairs shed on their own.
Between sessions
Shave as often as you like, but skip waxing, plucking and threading. Keep the area out of the sun and tanning beds and off self-tanner for two weeks before and after each visit, and use SPF 30 or higher. For a day after treatment, avoid hot showers, saunas and hard workouts.
