The rules for the first week
- No makeup for 24 hours, and use only the gentle products we recommend.
- For 48 hours, skip retinoids, acids, vitamin C, exfoliants, intense workouts, hot showers, saunas and pools.
- For 7 days, no scrubs. Stay out of the sun and wear SPF 30 or higher every day.
- Don't pick or rub. For any discomfort, use acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead of ibuprofen or aspirin.
Who should wait
We'll hold off if you have an active breakout or skin infection, a cold sore, a sunburn, if you're pregnant, or if you've used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months. If you're prone to cold sores, tell us in advance so your provider can plan for it.
