When to start, and who should wait
There's no set age to begin. Younger clients often start with baby Botox, a lighter dose for a subtler result. Treatment is postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there's an infection where we'd inject, or with certain neuromuscular conditions, and we review your health history before every first treatment.
Botox, filler or both?
Botox softens lines caused by movement. Filler restores volume and smooths lines that are there even when your face is still. Many people use both, and your injector will tell you which one each line needs. See dermal fillers.

What 20 units costs, and other common plans
Twenty units of Botox is $199.80. That's the FDA-approved starting dose for the frown lines between your brows. Here's how typical plans add up:

These are starting points from FDA dosing, not a quote. Men often need 5 to 10 more units per area, and your injector confirms your exact units and price before anything is injected.
Masseter Botox for a slimmer jaw
Botox in the masseter, the chewing muscle at the angle of your jaw, relaxes it. It's used to soften a square-looking jawline, and if clenching is part of why you're asking, bring it up at your consultation. It takes at least 25 units per side and kicks in over one to two weeks.
How long does Botox last?
About three to four months for most people. Movement comes back gradually, not all at once, and some people who treat the same areas regularly find their results last a little longer. Lines start softening in three to seven days, with the full effect at 10 to 14 days.
The 4-hour rule, and the rest of day one

For any tenderness, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the better choice, since ibuprofen and aspirin can make bruising more likely.
Your first appointment
Your injector watches how your face moves, asks what you'd like to soften and maps out the areas and units. The injections themselves take about 15 minutes. Tiny bumps at the injection points usually fade in 15 to 30 minutes, and you can head straight back to your day.

Planning around an event
Full results take 10 to 14 days, so book at least two weeks before a wedding, a party or photos. That also leaves room for the two-week check-in, when your injector can make a small adjustment if you'd like one.
