Dermaplaning
A sterile blade gently skims away fine vellus hair and the top layer of dead skin. Your face looks brighter right away, makeup goes on more smoothly, and serums can work better. Hair grows back normally, not thicker or darker.
Chemical peels
A peel uses an acid solution to lift away damaged surface skin, so fresh skin comes through. Expect a mild, windburn-like feeling for 2 to 3 days, then flaking for 3 to 5 days after that. For about two weeks you'll need daily SPF 30 or higher and no tanning beds.

Aftercare at a glance
- After a facial or dermaplaning: no retinoids, acids, benzoyl peroxide or vitamin C for a day, and skip heavy workouts for 24 hours after exfoliating treatments.
- After microdermabrasion: aloe vera or a cold compress helps with redness. Avoid acids, retinoids and acne products for 3 days, and don't wax the area for a week.
- After a peel: stay cool for 2 days, with no hot showers on your face, saunas or heavy sweating. Moisturize twice a day and don't pick at peeling skin.
- After any of them: avoid tanning, and wear SPF 30 or higher every day.
