Botox stops excessive underarm sweating by switching off the sweat glands in the treated skin, and results typically last about six months. At Cosmetica Med Spa in Boca Raton, underarms usually take about 100 units, or about $999 at $9.99 per unit. The appointment takes about 30 minutes with no downtime. We also treat sweaty palms and feet.
Where we treat sweating
| Area | Typical dose | Estimated cost at $9.99 per unit | FDA status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underarms | 50 units per side, 100 units total | About $999 | FDA approved for severe underarm sweating in adults |
| Palms | Set at your consultation, usually more than underarms | Quoted at your consultation | Off-label |
| Feet | Set at your consultation | Quoted at your consultation | Off-label |
| Forehead and hairline | Set at your consultation | Quoted at your consultation | Off-label |
Off-label means the use is common and well established but isn't listed on the FDA label. Your injector will explain what to expect for each area before anything is done.

How Botox stops sweat
Your sweat glands switch on when a nerve releases a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. Botox blocks that signal in the skin where it's placed, so the glands there stop producing sweat. The glands aren't removed or damaged; they simply stop getting the message until the Botox wears off. Your underarms hold only a small share of your body's sweat glands, so the rest of your body keeps cooling you normally.
What the FDA studies found
| Botox, 50 units per underarm | Placebo | |
|---|---|---|
| At least 50% less sweat at week 4 (first study) | 81% | 41% |
| At least 50% less sweat at week 4 (second study) | 91% | 36% |
| Median time results lasted | 201 days, about 6.5 months | Not applicable |
Results from Botox's FDA prescribing information. Your own results may be shorter or longer.
Is it hyperhidrosis or just normal sweat?
Primary hyperhidrosis means your sweat glands make far more sweat than your body needs to cool down. It often starts in the teens or twenties and tends to run in families. Common signs:
- Sweat soaks through your shirt even in air conditioning or when you're sitting still
- You plan outfits around sweat marks, or avoid gray, silk and light colors
- Clinical-strength antiperspirant isn't enough
- Sweaty palms make handshakes, phones or paperwork awkward
- It happens on both sides of the body, in the same areas, most days
Sweating that starts suddenly, happens all over your body, or soaks you at night can have another cause, such as a medication, thyroid problem or infection. See your doctor about that first.
Why it's so popular in South Florida
Boca Raton is hot and humid for most of the year, so sweat isn't a summer-only problem. Many clients book in spring so they're covered through the hottest months, and again in the fall. It's also a favorite before weddings, photo shoots, interviews and vacations, when you want to wear anything without thinking about it.
What to expect at your appointment
Before. Skip antiperspirant for 24 hours and come with clean underarms, so your injector can see exactly where you sweat most. A starch-iodine test, which turns sweaty skin dark, may be used to map the area.
Treatment. Botox is placed with a very fine needle in a grid of small injections about 1 to 2 cm apart across the area that sweats. Underarms usually take a few minutes per side, and most people say it feels like quick pinches. Palms and soles are more sensitive, so we use numbing and cooling for those areas.
Right after. Small bumps like the ones in the photo above appear at each injection point and settle on their own, usually within about half an hour. You can go back to work or your day right away.
When you'll notice a difference
Most people notice less sweat within a few days, with the full effect at about two weeks. Results usually last about six months, and some people go longer. When sweating starts to return, book your next treatment. Repeat treatments work about as well as the first.
Aftercare
- For 24 hours, skip workouts, saunas, hot tubs and anything that makes you sweat heavily.
- Don't rub or massage the treated area for the rest of the day.
- Wait 24 hours before deodorant or antiperspirant, and wait a day before shaving or waxing the area.
- Use Tylenol for any soreness. Avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for a day, since they can make bruising more likely.

Side effects and safety
The most common side effects are tenderness, small bruises and the temporary bumps at the injection points. Some people notice a little more sweating in other areas. After palm treatment, a slightly weaker grip for a few weeks is possible, which is why dosing on the hands is planned carefully. Botox isn't used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an infection in the area, or in people with certain nerve and muscle conditions, such as myasthenia gravis. Every treatment at Cosmetica is overseen by a board-certified dermatologist.

How much is Botox for underarm sweating in Boca Raton?
At Cosmetica Med Spa, Botox is $9.99 per unit. Underarms usually take about 100 units, 50 per side, so treatment is about $999. Your injector confirms the dose and price at your consultation.
Is Botox FDA approved for sweating?
Yes. Botox is FDA approved for severe underarm sweating in adults when antiperspirants haven't worked well enough. Treating palms, feet and the forehead is common but off-label.
How long does Botox for sweating last?
About six months for most people. In the FDA studies, results lasted a median of 201 days, and some people go longer.
How soon does it work?
Most people notice less sweat within a few days, with the full effect at about two weeks. Book at least two weeks before a wedding, trip or event.
Does underarm Botox hurt?
Most people describe quick pinches. The needle is very fine and each underarm takes just a few minutes. Palms and feet are more sensitive, so we numb and cool those areas.
Is it safe to stop sweating under my arms?
Yes. Your underarms hold only a small share of your sweat glands, so the rest of your body keeps cooling you normally.
Will I sweat more somewhere else?
Some people notice a little more sweating in other areas, but it's usually mild. This is different from the heavier compensatory sweating that can follow nerve surgery for sweating.
Can you treat sweaty hands and feet?
Yes. Palms and soles are common off-label treatment areas. They usually take more units than underarms and are priced at your consultation.
Does Botox help with underarm odor?
Many people notice less odor, since there's less sweat for odor-causing bacteria to feed on. It doesn't treat odor that comes from other causes.
Can men get Botox for sweating?
Yes. Excessive sweating is common in men, and underarm Botox works the same way. Men often pair it with Botox for forehead lines at the same visit.
Does insurance cover it?
Cosmetica Med Spa is self-pay and doesn't bill insurance. Payment plans are available through Cherry and CareCredit.
Who shouldn't get Botox for sweating?
It isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an infection in the area, or for people with certain nerve and muscle conditions. Sweating that starts suddenly, happens all over or soaks you at night should be checked by your doctor first.
