Masseter Botox in Boca Raton at Cosmetica Med Spa starts at about $500: 50 units at $9.99 per unit. A few injections into the masseter, the chewing muscle at the back of the jaw, relax it so a wide, square lower face slims down and clenching and grinding ease off. It takes about 15 minutes with no downtime, and results last about 3 to 4 months. Every treatment is overseen by our medical director, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Andrei Gherghina.

What masseter Botox can help with

  • A wide or square lower face caused by large jaw muscles
  • Jaw clenching during the day or at night
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism), alongside a night guard
  • Jaw tightness, soreness and fatigue from clenching
  • A heavy, bulky look at the angle of the jaw
  • A softer, more tapered face shape, sometimes called a V-shaped jawline

How masseter Botox works

The masseter is the thick muscle you can feel at the back of your jaw when you bite down. Like any muscle, it grows when it works hard. Genetics, clenching, grinding and chewing gum can all make it bigger, which widens the lower face and puts constant tension on the jaw.

Botox is a purified neurotoxin that temporarily lowers how strongly the muscle contracts. With less force behind each clench, the jaw relaxes, and over the following weeks the muscle shrinks a little, the way any muscle does when it's used less. The front of the face isn't affected: you can still talk, smile and chew normally. Very tough or chewy foods may feel like more work for the first few weeks.

Jaw slimming or clenching relief: what to expect

Your goalWhat changesWhen you'll notice it
Jaw slimmingThe muscle at the jaw angle gets smaller, so the lower face looks narrower and more taperedStarts at 2 to 4 weeks, full result at about 6 to 8 weeks
Clenching and grindingBite force drops, so clenching is gentler and the jaw feels less tightUsually within 1 to 2 weeks
Jaw soreness from clenchingLess strain on overworked jaw musclesUsually within 1 to 2 weeks

Masseter Botox for TMJ and jaw pain

"TMJ" is the jaw joint, and TMJ disorders (TMD) cover a range of jaw problems. Botox isn't FDA approved for TMJ disorders or teeth grinding, so using it for them is off-label. Studies suggest it can reduce pain and clenching force when the problem comes from overworked jaw muscles. It doesn't fix problems inside the joint itself, like a displaced disc, arthritis or a bite problem.

We'll be honest with you at your consultation about whether your symptoms look muscular. If your jaw locks, clicks with pain, or the pain started after an injury, see your dentist or doctor first. If you grind at night, keep wearing your night guard: Botox softens the clench, and the guard protects your teeth.

How many units of Botox for the masseter?

The masseter is a bigger muscle than the ones treated for forehead lines, so it takes more units. At Cosmetica, masseter treatment starts at 25 units per side, or 50 units total. Your injector feels the muscle while you clench and sets your dose from its size and strength.

Muscle sizeTypical doseEstimated cost at $9.99 per unit
Average25 units per side, 50 totalAbout $500
Strong30 to 35 units per side, 60 to 70 totalAbout $600 to $700
Very strong, common in men and heavy clenchers40 units per side, 80 totalAbout $800

First-time clients often start at the lower dose, with a check-in to see how the muscle responds. Your injector confirms your exact dose and price before anything is done.

Masseter Botox cost in Boca Raton

Botox is $9.99 per unit at Cosmetica, so masseter Botox starts at about $500 for 50 units, and most clients pay about $500 to $800. Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify are also $9.99 per unit. Many clients treat their frown lines or forehead at the same visit; see Botox for those areas and the Botox cost guide for more on pricing. Payment plans are available through Cherry and CareCredit; see financing.

A $100 deposit is collected when you book and credited to your treatment. If you cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment, your deposit stays on your account as a credit. If you miss your appointment or cancel less than 24 hours before, the $100 deposit is forfeited and non-refundable.

Your appointment, step by step

  1. Consultation. Your injector asks about clenching, grinding and jaw pain, then feels the masseter while you bite down to judge its size and strength.
  2. Mapping. The injection points are marked on the thickest part of the muscle, away from the muscles you use to smile.
  3. Injections. A few tiny injections go into each side. Most people describe a quick pinch and a brief ache in the muscle.
  4. Done. The whole visit takes about 15 minutes, and you can go straight back to your day.
  5. Check-in. A follow-up at about 4 to 6 weeks lets us see how the muscle has responded and plan your next dose.

Results timeline

  • Days 3 to 7: Botox starts to take effect.
  • Weeks 1 to 2: clenching and jaw tightness usually ease.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: the jaw starts to look slimmer.
  • Weeks 6 to 8: full slimming result.
  • Months 3 to 4: the muscle slowly regains strength. Book your next visit to keep the result. With regular treatment, some people find they need fewer units or can go longer between visits.

Individual results vary.

Masseter Botox vs. jawline filler

Masseter BotoxJawline filler
What it doesRelaxes and slims the chewing muscleAdds structure and definition along the jawbone
Best forA wide, square lower face, clenching and grindingA soft or undefined jawline
Results showSlimming over 6 to 8 weeksRight away
LastsAbout 3 to 4 months12 months or more
Starting priceAbout $500$699 per syringe

Some clients do both: masseter Botox to slim the wide part of the jaw and filler to sharpen the line from chin to ear. When the whole lower face is planned together, that's facial balancing.

Masseter Botox for men

Men often have larger, stronger masseters and clench harder, so they usually need more units, often 60 to 80. The goal for most men is to ease the clenching and soften a bulky jaw angle while keeping a strong, masculine jawline. If you also want more definition, jawline filler can add it.

Aftercare

  • Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Don't rub, massage or press on your jaw for the rest of the day.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot tubs for 24 hours.
  • Go easy on gum and very chewy foods for a day or two.
  • Tylenol is fine for any tenderness. If your doctor agrees, avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for a day to limit bruising.

See the full Botox aftercare guide.

Side effects and safety

Most side effects are mild and short-lived: tenderness, a small bump or a bruise where the injections went in. Chewing tough foods can feel tiring for a few weeks while the muscle adjusts. Less often, Botox can spread to a nearby smile muscle and make a smile look slightly uneven until it wears off, which is why the injection points are mapped carefully. Masseter Botox isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have an infection where the injections would go, or if you have certain neuromuscular conditions. We review your health history at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions

How much is masseter Botox in Boca Raton?

At Cosmetica Med Spa, Botox is $9.99 per unit, and masseter treatment starts at 50 units (25 per side), so it starts at about $500. Most clients pay about $500 to $800, depending on how strong their jaw muscles are. Your injector confirms your exact price before treatment.

How many units of Botox do you need for the masseter?

At Cosmetica we start at 25 units per side, 50 units total. Stronger muscles often take 30 to 40 units per side, or 60 to 80 total. Your injector sets your dose by feeling the muscle while you clench.

How long does masseter Botox last?

About 3 to 4 months. With regular treatment, the muscle can stay smaller and some people go longer between visits.

When will I see results from jaw Botox?

Clenching and jaw tightness usually ease within 1 to 2 weeks. The jaw starts to look slimmer at 2 to 4 weeks, with the full slimming result at about 6 to 8 weeks.

Does masseter Botox help with TMJ?

It can help when jaw pain comes from clenching and overworked jaw muscles. It doesn't treat problems inside the joint, like a displaced disc or arthritis. Botox isn't FDA approved for TMJ disorders, so this is an off-label use. If your jaw locks or the pain followed an injury, see your dentist or doctor first.

Does Botox stop teeth grinding?

It doesn't stop the urge to grind, but it weakens the clench, so grinding is gentler and the jaw feels less tight. If you grind at night, keep wearing your night guard to protect your teeth.

Can I still chew normally after masseter Botox?

Yes. Talking, smiling and normal eating aren't affected. Very chewy or tough foods may feel like more work for the first few weeks.

Will masseter Botox change my smile?

It shouldn't. The injections go into the back of the jaw, away from the smile muscles. Rarely, product spreads and makes a smile look slightly uneven for a few weeks, which is why injection points are mapped carefully.

Does jaw Botox hurt?

Most people feel a quick pinch and a brief ache in the muscle. The treatment takes about 15 minutes.

Can I get masseter Botox and jawline filler together?

Yes. Botox slims the wide part of the jaw and filler adds definition along the jawbone, and they can be done at the same visit. See jawline filler.

What happens if I stop masseter Botox?

Over a few months the muscle regains its strength and size, and your jaw returns to how it looked before. Nothing gets worse than where you started.

Who shouldn't get masseter Botox?

It isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an infection where the injections would go, or with certain neuromuscular conditions. We review your health history at your consultation.
